YES THEY COME OFF. DON'T scare yourself with google. I bought one a year ago and the way its installed is just like any other freewheel. I haven't tried to take it off but the slots for a freewheel tool are there. Just dont install the freewheel with the lettering outboard and you are golden. They are pretty quiet and although its not on my bike (on my gf's bike) it seems alright for the job. I lube it every now and then with some oil (whether that really does anything or not is beyond me) by just putting some drops on it. Its fine and its obnoxiously loud.
