When Paul Components set out to build this brake they started with aclean slate. Then they tried all manner of whacky ideas but eventuallywound their way back to the tried and true ball bearing in a rampsystem. From there they concentrated on the details. They used biggerball bearings for smoothness and increased pad travel with hardenedsteel where the balls contact the ramps and three hardened steel pins tolocate the pad actuator. Instead of a plastic thrust washer they used aflat needle roller thrust bearing.
The caliper body took countless drawing revisions and probably 20prototypes. It features ΓÇ£fangsΓÇ¥ on the inner backing plate forstiffness, and a beefed up the outer caliper body where needed.
The pad adjusters went through a similar process for easy adjustabilitywith staying power. For that they designed detents into thecircumference, located with spring ball plungers.
They believe this is the best mechanical caliper ever made for abicycle. ItΓÇÖs available in long pull and short pull, and can beconverted by simply changing the actuating arm.
As always, allow a couple short rides to bed in the Kool Stop sintered metallic pads.
